Member Spotlight: Just My Type Letterpress Paperie
Unique stationary, limited edition art prints, paper and art supplies, custom jobs, and more.
Artist Lynn Jones and Just My Type Letterpress Paperie is the embodiment of the artisan creators that make Humboldt County so special. She developed her passion and artistic skills while attending Humboldt State University, and as a true entrepreneur started her own small art studio in 2005. Today we have her with us to discuss the depth of her work, what inspires her, and how Just My Type Letterpress has become a leader on the North Coast.
So Lynn, how and when did you get started?
“I've been printing since1999, but I've had the retail shop in Old Town Eureka since 2016. I was a Studio Art/Graphic Design student at Humboldt State University, and one of my professors arranged a field trip to see some design firms in the Bay Area. On that trip, we visited the studio of David Lance Goines in Berkeley. I was fascinated by his process and how he wasn't completely reliant on his computer. He offered me a summer internship and I jumped at the chance.”
What has been the biggest challenge for your business?
“My biggest challenge is remembering to be numbers-driven and not emotionally-driven.”
What are you most proud of?
“I am most proud of having the guts to start my business so young, and having the gumption to stick with it all these years.”
Where can we find your products?
“You can find my products at my shop in Old Town Eureka, and online at www.justmytypeletterpress.com. I'm also in Old Town at the Eureka Visitors Center. Hopefully, you'll see my work in stores nationwide soon.”`
Lynn creates all kinds of artistic pieces for weddings, local businesses, events and more. Her Old Town Eureka location is a one stop shop for all your artistic needs, from papers to tools and everything in between. The best way to see her diverse breadth of work is to check out her online portfolio, and moving forward in 2019 Just My Type is now offering wholesale products for stores.
Finally, we ask this entrepreneur why Humboldt?
“The scenery is absolutely incredible here; it's so inspiring….it’s a great place to be.”
